High School Year

Ontario Secondary School Curriculum

REIA students follow a challenging university-preparatory curriculum. Students for whom English is a second language receive outstanding support through a full range of English and academic courses. All REIA students receive individual academic advice and help, as well as extensive university/college counseling in their senior years.

Grades 9 & 10: Royal Elite International Academy will provide the skill and content base for the specialization years in grades 11 and 12.

Grades 11 & 12: Royal Elite International Academy offers university preparation courses for Grades 11 and 12 designed to equip students with the knowledge and skills they need to meet the entrance requirements for university and college programs.

Students at REIA who have successfully fulfilled the following requirements will be awarded the Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) by the Ontario Ministry of Education:

  • Minimum of 30 credits over Grades 9 to 12, eighteen (18) of which are compulsory courses and the remaining twelve (12) are electives.
  • 40 hours of community service.
  • A successful result on the Ontario Secondary Literacy Test or Literacy Course.

Students who have partially completed high school education will be offered equivalent credits based on their successful prior learning.

Differentiated Instruction and Experiential Learning

REIA teachers support diverse learners by developing a combination teaching strategies that responsive to all students’ needs and challenging students at an appropriate level, in light of their strengths, areas of needs, readiness, interests, and learning profiles. The learning profile may include learning style, type of intelligences(s) or learning preference or traits related to socio-economic or cultural background.

REIA provides ample experiential learning opportunities for our students through community involvement, extra- curricular activities, volunteering and workshops during or beyond school hours.

  • Second Progress Report
  • Final Report

Arts Department

The Arts Department at Royal Elite International Academy understands the important role that dance, drama, media arts, music and visual arts play in the development of well-rounded students. Our Arts Department is committed to allowing students experience the different arts to develop their self-awareness, creativity and learn more about their identity and their sense of well-being.

Business Department

At REIA, our Business Department strives to expose students to the world of business. Business is an integral part of everyday life, our business curriculum works to help our students become more aware of how business effects their everyday life and to make them better global citizens. Not only do the business classes touch on how business affects us in our everyday life in Canada, it also touches on how others are affected around the world, increasing the global awareness of the student.

English Department

Language is one of the greatest empowering forces given to human beings. At REIA, English prepares students for personal and professional life by fostering both practical communication skills and imagination. By reading literature critically, students gain essential training in how to think clearly and write articulately.

Through literature, students will explore the human condition and develop their minds analytically.

ESL Department

Ontario secondary schools are now home to students who speak more than 100 different languages, including several Aboriginal languages, many African, Asian, and European languages. Ontario’s increasing language and cultural diversity provides students with many opportunities for cultural enrichment and for learning that is global in scope.

The ESL Department at Royal Elite International Academy understands the importance of English as a Second Language, and the teachers are committed to providing the foundational knowledge English language learners will need to be successful while at Royal Elite International Academy and in their future goals.

Mathematics Department

In a world that continues to change, REIA offers a variety of mathematic courses dealing with the various needs that are placed on us by our Ontario colleges and universities and by our society, as a whole. We strive to have our students become risk takers and team players who can work in a group environment. Whether it is from calculating compound interest, mortgage payments or optimization problems, this department challenges the student on a daily basis to hone his/her critical thinking skills. Students are encouraged to participate in the various Mathematics competitions.

Physical education programming at REIA strives to provide opportunities for all students. We aim to develop positive attitudes toward total wellness. We hope students experience the joy of physical activity and incorporate physical fitness in their complete lifestyle.

Science Department

The Science Department at REIA is focused on the different areas in which science impacts everyday life. Science classes at Royal Elite International Academy provide a strong foundational framework for students to pursue post-secondary studies in different science programs.

The Science program is focused around three main concepts:

  1. The relationship between science, society, environment, and technology
  2. Acquire abilities, tactics, and practices required for scientific inquiry
  3. Understand the essential theories of science.

Social Sciences and Humanities Department

The Social Science and Humanities/Canadian World Studies Department at REIA is dedicated to student exploration of different academic curriculum. This department focuses on several major subject areas, such as, general social science (including Geography and History), family studies, philosophy, and world religions. Each of these subject areas focus on how students see themselves, their families, their communities, and society as they seek to find meaning in the world around them. Royal Elite International Academy and its teachers understand the importance of diversity and feel it is essential to being a global citizen.
